Straight answers
Is it really AI?
Yep, and it never pretends to be a person. Every call opens with your greeting on a recorded line, and if a caller asks whether they're talking to a person or a machine, your receptionist says straight away that it's your virtual receptionist. No pretending. Callers who want a human can always be patched through to you or leave a priority message. Here's
exactly what an AI receptionist does on a real call.
Does it actually book jobs, or just take messages?
It books them. Giday works from a live calendar — yours if you've connected it (Steady plan and up), or the Giday calendar we set up for you — offers real available times, locks the job in, and texts the customer a confirmation. Message-taking is the fallback, not the product.
How does it know my prices?
You paste your price list into your dashboard once (or we lift it from your website), tick the box to say the receptionist may quote it, and it's on straight away — no waiting on us. Giday quotes the way you would: one honest number, confirmed on the job. Anything we can't read as a price is held back and shown to you rather than guessed at. Quoting from your price list comes with the Busy plan and up.
What about the 2am calls?
Answered like every other call, no after-hours surcharge. True emergencies can be patched through to your on-call number; everything else is offered your next business-hours time and confirmed by text.
Is an AI receptionist even legal in Australia?
Yes — in every state and territory, provided call recording is handled lawfully. That's why every Giday call opens with the words "on a recorded line" in your receptionist's own greeting, why it never claims to be a person, and why callers can have their records deleted on request. We wrote the plain-English, state-by-state guide:
AI receptionists and call-recording law in Australia.
Can my receptionist take more than one call at once?
Yes — as many as ring. If three customers call at the same moment, all three get answered instantly, in your business name, with no hold music and no queue. No human receptionist, and no front desk, can do that: with a person, your second caller hears engaged or waits on hold. With Giday, every caller is caller number one.
Are calls recorded?
Every call is transcribed, so you get a written record of the lot — transcripts come with the Steady plan and up, and they're yours alone. Callers are told, too: your receptionist's greeting says "on a recorded line" on every call (it's the safe default in every Australian state, and it's always on — there's no switch to turn it off, on purpose), and it never pretends to be a person. If a caller ever asks for their records deleted, your receptionist actions it on the call, and the recording and transcript are purged within the hour.
How long does setup take?
Minutes. Sign up and your receptionist is created straight away, on its own Australian number — ring it and meet them before the kettle's boiled. Going live on your own number is one divert code (reversible any time), and your prices, calendar and greeting are yours to tweak in the dashboard whenever you like. And there's no setup fee — none, $0.
What happens if I go over my usage?
Don't stress — nothing gets switched off, and we're not going to sting you. Your receptionist keeps answering right through it. A one-off busy month is on us to sort fairly. Say you're on Starter ($49 for 30 minutes) and you have a cracker of a month at 120 minutes. We don't bill you $319 ($49 plus $270 of overage). We re-bill that month as the cheapest plan that would have covered it — Busy, at $199 — and that's what you pay. You're still on Starter, and a quiet month next month costs you $49 again. If it happens two months running, that's not a busy month — that's your new normal. After the first one we'll email and say so, because moving up properly gets you a bigger included allowance and a cheaper per-minute rate for much the same money. If you'd rather stay put, that's completely fine — but from the second month in a row we bill the busy month as one plan up rather than jumping you to whichever plan happens to be cheapest. On the example above that's $249 instead of $199. It's the nudge to buy the plan you're actually using, not a penalty, and we'll always have told you first. Either way: no lock-in, no cancellation fee, and we never move you to a different plan without asking you.
What's the busy-month promise?
You'll never get hit with runaway overage on a busy month. A one-off big month is billed the cheaper way — if your overage would cost more than simply buying a bigger plan, we bill it as that bigger plan instead, and you drop back to your usual plan next cycle.
Two big months in a row is different: that's your new normal rather than a busy month, so from the second one we cap the bill at one plan up instead of whichever plan happens to be cheapest — on a Starter month that ran to 120 minutes, $249 rather than $199. It's still capped, it's still never runaway overage, and it's the nudge to move onto the plan you're actually using. We'll have emailed you before it happens, and we never move you without asking. pricing page.
What happens after the free week?
Your card goes on file when you sign up as a safety gate — a real card proves a real business — but nothing is charged and no plan is started. You get 7 days or 60 minutes of call time, whichever runs out first, and the clock only starts when your receptionist answers their first call. Three days before the week ends we email you what's been used and the plan we'd recommend: one click keeps it (your first charge lands when the week ends), one click cancels. Do nothing and the week simply ends — nothing charged, and we hold your number for 30 days in case you come back.
Can I keep my own number, or do I get a new one?
Both. Your existing number stays yours and nothing about it changes. We give your receptionist a real Australian number of its own — most people simply divert their existing number to it (one dial code, reversible any time), and some advertise the Giday number directly as well. That number is yours to use for as long as you're subscribed, and if you ever leave we hold it for 30 days and support porting it out — we never hold a number hostage. One honest heads-up before you print it on the ute: the more you advertise the Giday number, the more effort moving away later takes — most people lead with their own number and let the divert do the work.
